Yelp business page optimization
What does Yelp business page optimization include?
It includes claiming your free Yelp page, filling in everything Yelp lets a business show, and keeping it accurate and answered every month. Optimus Business Solutions in Salem, New Hampshire claims the page in your name, sets your categories, services, specialties, history, service area, hours and captioned photos to match your website, then replies to each new review in your voice. It never includes asking customers for Yelp reviews, because Yelp forbids it, and no paid Yelp upgrades are bought.

Who looks here
Who reads your Yelp page, often without opening Yelp
Some customers search Yelp directly to compare contractors and read the reviews. Many more meet Yelp without going there: in the United States the stars on an Apple Maps card are Yelp's, Bing counts Yelp reviews when it ranks local businesses, and assistants now quote Yelp ratings when someone asks who to call. A thin or outdated Yelp page travels to all of those places too.
- People comparing contractors on Yelp itself
- iPhone users seeing Yelp stars on Apple Maps
- Assistants quoting Yelp when asked who is good

The page claimed and through Yelp's review
Yelp often lists a business before the owner ever touches it. That page gets claimed, not added again, because Yelp asks businesses not to submit themselves twice. Yelp verifies with a call to the business phone, so the number has to reach you. A new page then waits for Yelp's moderators before it shows in search. The account is yours, with your photo on it, since Yelp will not let an account without one reply to reviews.
- Your existing page claimed, never doubled
- Verified on a phone that reaches you
- Your own photo on the account, so you can reply

Every free field filled, in words customers search
A free Yelp page has more room than most owners use. Up to three categories, each with its own services checklist. A specialties section, where Yelp says the terms you use help people find you. Your history, a meet the owner note, amenities, the area you serve with the address hidden, regular and holiday hours, and photos of real jobs, each with a caption. Request a Quote stays on where Yelp offers it.
- Categories and services that match your trade
- Specialties and history in plain words
- Real job photos, every one captioned
Every month
Answered, current and inside Yelp's lines
Each month every new review gets a short public reply in your voice: thanks for the good ones and a calm answer to the hard ones. Holiday hours go up before each season, new captioned photos get added, and any change Yelp or its users make to your details gets checked. Yelp shows customers how fast you answer messages and quote requests, so those alerts go straight to your phone.
- A public reply to every review
- Holiday hours and new photos kept current
- Edits to your page caught and checked

Questions owners ask
Yelp: straight answers
Why won't you ask my customers for Yelp reviews?
Because Yelp forbids it. Its rule covers asking in person, by text or email, links, QR codes and any reward. Yelp's software moves reviews it thinks were asked for into a not recommended section that does not count toward your stars, and repeated asking can earn a public warning on your page. The safe route is good work and a page worth reading.
So how does a business get more Yelp reviews?
By being easy to find and good to deal with. Yelp allows a Find us on Yelp sticker on your door or truck and a Yelp badge on your website, which show presence without asking. A complete page, quick replies to quote requests and thoughtful answers to past reviews make people who already use Yelp more likely to write one.
Do I have to pay for Yelp ads or upgrades?
No. The free page carries everything described here. Yelp sells ads, a logo slot, removal of competitor ads and other upgrades, and the dashboard pitches them often, but none of them are needed for an accurate, complete page. If paid Yelp ever makes sense for you, that is your decision, made separately.
Can Yelp change my page without telling me?
Yelp reviews changes to your name, phone and website by visiting your website and social profiles, and its users can suggest edits too. Owner changes show right away but are checked afterward and can be reversed. That is why your page gets read back after changes and checked again each month.
Can I post updates on my Yelp page?
Not for free. Yelp only allows business posts through a paid add-on, so a free page has no post feed. What keeps a free page looking alive is new captioned photos, current hours and replies to reviews, which is what the monthly upkeep covers.
